Hey, I found an even slicker way, this is more RERSTful in my opinion, and you don't have to mess about with your web.config file at all...
(with the new razor engine its even more straight forward than this example)

ete, I have been sending people to this page in forum replies for a long time now as its a great example of a simple httphandler. It seems that since you moved domains the code on this page has turned into an unreadable blob Is there anything you can do to return it to its former glory?

Great example.

You could explore the idea of <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/workers.html#shared-state-using-a-shared-worker" rel="nofollow">shared workers</a>, with them single shared worker could provide tweets to all windows, with one update stream it would be smoother experience.

PNG?! For shame. Where’s the SVG or Canvas, bro?
</blockquote>

It's coming! Now that I've figured out the proportions and such, I want to make an HTML5ify web app that'll build these guys for you, then let you download either a vector based or bitmap image. The Android team released all their artwork for the Androdify app, so it's just a matter of webifying it... so to speak! :)

Beer and Wine? Sure! But also a couple of great, not great, scrap that, excellent places to eat Argentine "Asado". No, you won't get that anywhere else.

More excuses to come back next year.

P.S.: Of course, after eating such an Asado, you would need a Siesta :D.

<p>Although I think there’s much easier ways to pull this off with jQuery or any other framework – kudos for attempting this without them.</p></blockquote>

Great point Steve! And you're absolutely right! I wanted to do this without libraries partly as an academic exercise, but also to show as we get more HTML5 features in our browsers, the need for libraries will decrease significantly. <code>classList</code> is a great example of that.

I made a few changes last night based on some feedback via Twitter, and upped the click target size - check out <a href="http://petelepage.com/scratch/slider-panel/index2.html" rel="nofollow">http://petelepage.com/scratch/slider-panel/index2.html</a>. I love the solid triangle idea and will make that change to v2 as soon as I finish reply!

Although I think there's much easier ways to pull this off with jQuery or any other framework - kudos for attempting this without them.

I'd change the behavior though of the "mouseover/hover" effect... if you try to click the arrow to expand the panel, it nudges in a bit causing your click to miss the target (e.g. bad usability)

On a personal note, although the rotating arrow is nifty I'd switch it to a solid triangular arrow as the open arrow looks like an HTML coding error (e.g. an extra closing bracket) vs. an intended UI element.

Another thing I noticed about html5 videos generally is that html5 video when clicked doesn’t start immediately and when we use the video scrubber it starts. Can you pls. explain that too. Thanks & Regards, Sagar S. Ranpise</blockquote>

Hey Sagar,

To get the video able to start more quickly, the easiest thing to do is add the preload="auto" attribute to the video tag. In my examples, I set the preload to none which prevents the browser from preloading the video. That's helpful when (for example on a blog), you aren't positive that people are going to want to watch the video and want to be respectful of bandwidth.

Hope that helps!

I was going through the post and the sad panda notification appeared but when I click the video it started the video. Can you pls. explain why the notification shows up when html5 video is supported and i am using Chrome (12.0.742.112) as browser.

Is there any feature in MSIE developers toolkit that allow one to REPLACE an entire stylesheet (oerride the existing one). It's all very well to be able to edit one element at a time... but I want to OVER-RIDE the style sheet (in its entireity) with a stylesheet of my own.

This can be done in FIREFOX (Firebug, and Chris Pedericks Toolkit)... but sadly, not in MSIE Dev Toolkit.

It would be useful, because MSIE does not behave well. A stylesheet that follows CSS protocol will work on Firefox, but will sometimes make dogs breakfast when applied t MSIE.

What I would like is a feature in MSIE Dev Toolkit that allows a complete removal of the existing css sheet, and an ability to apply a completely different stylesheet.

I don't think it's something that would ever cause you a problem when printing, but just a different way of thinking about exposing paper. You'd never expose a photograph in linear time, so why would you do it to paper?

And no, I don't work for them, I'm in a completely different industry and do all kinds of crazy web stuff!

I don’t think it’s something that would ever cause you a problem when printing, but just a different way of thinking about exposing paper. You’d never expose a photograph in linear time, so why would you do it to paper?

And no, I don’t work for them, I’m in a completely different industry and do all kinds of crazy web stuff!

Been printing for 20 years and have never heard of this and never ran into any troubles due to the lack of this knowledge.... BTW: did you know that there are a plethora of electronic enlarger timers available nowadays used for under $20? Good plug for a weird little brand though (you don't work for them by any chance do you?)

IE developer tools are pretty pathetic compared to the likes of Firebug. The most annoying thing is seeing messages like "object does not have this method on line 23847634". Eh, the page only has a few hundred lines, what kind of message is that?

In Firebug I can type "a" into the script console (where a is an array) and not only see the contents of the array but all the DOM methods I can call on it. In IE toolbar all I see is a useless "{...}". Absolutely pointless.

Hi

Any updates on when the IE9 image is ready, I have no other way of testing my many sites. This is really a must for the thousands of people unable to run Vista or Win 7.

Way to go, having old versions of internet explorer removed from spoon.net!

It sometimes feels as if microsoft goes out of their way to make our life difficult as web developers. Not only do we have to support your non-standard out of date versions, but you seem to make it difficult for us to do that at every step of the way.

I'm really very disappointed in microsoft for doing this. The irony is that if it wasn't for spoon.net's service filling a gap you've left yourselves, I would not have recently upgraded to windows 7 64 bit, and microsoft would have lost a sale (previously I was using windows XP and MultipleIE - which sadly won't work with windows 7).

I really don't like the VHD approach you offer yourself, and most of the guys I work with much preferred spoon.net.

Why you haven't provided something similar yourself before now (or even just some form of compartmentalisation so different versions of IE could coexist peacefully on the same machine like many other browsers do) is beyond me.

I know none of this is probably your fault personally, so apologies for the rant, but I notice that you're involved with Internet Explorer and liasing with developers, so I can only hope you can get across the message about how upset a lot of developers and web designers are about removing IE from spoon.net

I hope it's resolved soon (or that you can take the time to build your own solution instead of these clunky VHD images that only run on your own platform and expire regularly).

I work with several design and development companies and everyone I speak to is fuming about this at the moment.

Unfortunately I would have to disagree with this line:

"with the F12 Developer Tools and get an almost perfect replication of IE9, IE8 or even IE7."

My experience has shown me that there are several differences with the rendering engine(s). using the VHD's, VMWare or Spoon.net's virtual apps is much better than playing the guess-if-its-right game in the Developer Tools.
